Eduardo Nunez, who made two errors last night against the Rays, has been optioned to the minors, according to multiple reports.
Eric Chavez has been activated from the 7-day disabled list in a corresponding move.
Nunez is hitting .294 with a .356 on-base percentage and no home runs in 59 plate appearances for the Yankees this season. He's a career .271 hitter in parts of the last three seasons in New York. Nunez has seen time at second base, third base, shortstop, left field and right field while with the Yankees, but his defense has been a concern.
Nunez already has four errors this season, including fielding and throwing errors on Thursday that led to two unearned runs in the first two innings. Jayson Nix replaced Nunez at third base to start the 6th inning. Nunez has made 25 errors in his MLB career.
